noun (kŏnˈtrăst)
1. The act of contrasting; a setting off of dissimilar entities or objects.
2. The use of opposing elements, such as colors, forms, or lines, in proximity to produce an intensified effect in a work of art.
3. The difference in brightness between the light and dark areas of a picture, such as a photograph or video image.
Black and white, big and small, left and right, the Beatles or the Stones. Our world and ourselves are often described in terms of polar opposites. We view our reality in terms of right and wrong, good and bad, for and against. It is easier to ignore the grey areas and pursue clearly cut categories.
As artists we are constantly exploring the push and pull of contrasts – each in a way that has individual meaning.
“Contrast” will explore the elements of contrast that have meaning for each of the SolidColour artists
